Create The Working Environment You Want

What does your working environment say about you? Is your office space thrown together with odds and ends you’ve managed to lay your hands on or have you created a space that really allows your work to thrive? What would external visitors think if they came into your office for a meeting? When you are setting up your working environment, consider what you need and what you want. The needs should come before the wants and if your budget allows, those desirables can follow. Let’s look at what you should put into your office space to help you work.

A Warm Welcome

Consider the first impression that people get when they enter your workspace. This is important as you only get one chance for a first impression. Your space needs to tell the story of your business. It needs to be professional yet comfortable. Think about what guests will think when they enter your premises for meetings and such. What will potential new staff members think when come for an interview. A warm welcome to a place where people want be is a good thing. This might mean a clean and tidy, some pot plants and professional branding.

Comfortable Work Stations

No one is going to do their best work if they’re not comfortable. By creating spacious and appealing work stations, you and your staff members will be able to complete their work without suffering any pain or discomfort. When you think about the office furniture you need to put in place, consider how it will work together, how the office environment will flow, how the desks and cabinets will blend. Decent chairs which help posture too.

Proper Storage

You need proper storage in your office space. This will help you create a tidy and well organised area. You don’t want paperwork flung all over the place, because you’ll never find what you need. It won’t look professional either. Consider proper filing cabinets, bookcases, shelving units and spare desks for both hot desking and printers. You might not be at the stage of requiring a fully stocked stationery cupboard but you will probably need pens, pencils and reams of paper.

Somewhere For Refreshments

Did you know that over an average 47 year career, the almost 25 thousand cups of tea? That’s a lot of tea! An office lives and dies on it’s brews. A mug of rosy lee can provide that much needed wake up call in the morning and some of the best conversations happen over a cup of coffee. Having somewhere that staff can make a drink is important. It makes them feel appreciated and let’s them do those departmental tea rounds throughout the day. Having a hot water dispenser or at the very minimum, a kettle, will also keep staff in the building. Otherwise they’ll take time out of their working day to go to the local Starbucks.

Take the time to make a list of what you need in your perfect work space and you’ll soon have that environment where your business can thrive.
