Preparing Your Garden for BBQ Season

The days are getting longer and a lot hotter which only means one thing – BBQ season is here. Before you get your marinades out, you will need to tackle what the autumn and winter has left behind and give your garden a little spruce up. Rake, Rake, Rake.

The first job is to tackle any debris. Rake through your grass to get rid of the old leaves that have fallen and have started to wither. Anything else unsightly can be disposed of too.

Trim 

Once that is done, you can tackle the real job. Your lawn. Trim down to shape with a lawn mower and dispose of your loose trimmings. To revive it and keep it looking its best, spray with lawn food and you will have amazing results.

Weeds

Weeds are a nightmare. They can endanger the other plants in your garden by giving off chemicals and killing them. They aren’t pretty looking things either. Remove from your foliage and garden slabs with a weed cleaning tool and spray generously with a weed killer to ensure that those pesky things don’t come back.

Garden Furniture

As a host, you’ll need to make sure that your guests have somewhere to sit. There’s nothing more embarrassing than pulling out dirty deck chairs which is why you MUST give them a clean along with any other furniture. If you’re dealing with plastic, you will be fine with just warm soapy water. If your garden set is wood, however, you may need to carry out some proper wood care by sealing over any paint chips with varnish. All simple things that you can do for a dazzling garden.

Patio

The most overlooked part of the garden is the patio. It’s trodden all over which can make it look dull and grim over time. Giving it a good wash can bring it back to its former glory and tie everything together. All you will need is a power washer or a hose and garden broom if you can’t get a hold of one. 

See to Your Deck

Chances are that your deck is where you’ll be entertaining. You can use the same power washer and technique to get rid of any built-up dirt, or if the damage is greater than you were expecting, you might need to do a mini refurb. You will need to remove any paint that’s loose with a paint scraper, brush over with a hard bristle brush, clean with a deck finisher and power wash before adding a new paint.

Fencing

Your fences may have also discoloured a bit since your last BBQ. A lick of paint is all you’ll need and you will be good to go. You will have seemingly new fences and a secret that only you know about.

Have a Declutter

Children love bringing their toys out one by one while we forget to put things back in their place. All the random bits that you have floating around can make your space look messy and smaller than it actually is. Open it up by having a declutter and you will find that it looks much bigger and more spacious.

Once all that has been taken care of, you can bring out the star of the show. Give your BBQ a clean and you’re ready to go.
