Ways To Save Money On Wedding
Your wedding day needs to be special. However, special doesn’t mean throwing loads of money at it. When you are organising a wedding it is so easy to get swept away in everything that is offered. But do you really need a dove release for £200? We’re going to look at ways to save money on wedding planning, showing that you can still have a stunning wedding day on a budget!

Choose A Different Day
One of the first things you might not even think about is, that weekend wedding you’re thinking of, is going to cost more than if you had it during the week. Weddings generally take place at weekends so guests can attend and not have to take time off work. However, that is one way to limit your guest list – see below! Why should you have to pay maybe even double the price to have your wedding on a Saturday when a Thursday is just as good? Ask your desired venue for the price difference and you might be swayed to go midweek!
Limit Your Guest List
Limiting your guest list is one of the best ways to save money on wedding days. With less people, you pay less money for food. Some venues can be £50-£100 per person. That is an awesome lot of money! Don’t be afraid to only invite who you want to be there. Whilst it might put people ‘out’, it’s your day and you need to have it the way you want. One of the worst things to do is invite everybody and then start your marriage in debt. They’re only coming for a day, you’re spending your lives together and starting in financial hardship is never a good idea! Going midweek might mean some people can’t come, bonus!
Ask For Extras
When you’re booking your wedding venue, see if you can get any extras thrown in. If they have accommodation, see if they can throw in some rooms to the bundle. If you haven’t organised evening food, see if they can add some bacon and sausage sandwiches to the occasion. It might feel cheeky but if they want your booking they might throw in a few extras to secure the deal. If you don’t ask, you won’t get! If you want a Christmas theme but don’t want to pay for decorations, choose a date when the hotel will be decorated for the festive season anyway.
Search For Your Dress
One of the great ways to save money on wedding days is by shopping around for your wedding dress. You might have your heart set on the experience of going to a luxury wedding store and being pampered and made a fuss of. However, you will pay for it! Dresses at those kind of establishments are expensive! Have you considered second hand wedding fairs? Or a hand me down from a loved one? Some people even sell their wedding dresses online after wearing them. There’s nothing wrong with them, they’ve only been worn once! They just realise that they should probably try and claw back some of the cash they spent on it. That is where you can swoop in and bag a bargain!

Buy Your Suit
Suit hire can be expensive and you’ve got to hand it back afterwards! Why not look for a decent suit that you can buy, wear for your wedding day and then have in the wardrobe for future events? You’ll likely spend less than wedding suit hire and it’ll be yours for years to come! For the best man and the rest of the groomsmen, if you’re not bothered about matching, just get them to wear whatever suit they have. Maybe you could even go suit shopping together, get it done quickly and spend the afternoon at the pub!
Avoid The Free Bar
Speaking of drinks, one of the things some guests expect at weddings is a free bar. They can end up costing you a lot of money! If you’re already paying for food and maybe some bottles of wine on the tables, why should you also pay for a free bar? Get the guests to buy their own drinks! You’ll save yourself the heart attack of a huge bill at the end of the night and it’s one of the best ways to save money on wedding receptions.
Save Money & DIY
With weddings, there is someone to do everything for you. However, you’ll pay for that service. Take some of your wedding planning time and do things yourself. Not only will you save money, you’ll enjoy the experience! Figure out what is important to you as well. Those expertly taken photographs of your key moments will no doubt be important. However, a cake is a cake. Do you need a DJ for the evening reception or can you create your own playlist? Think of ways to save money on wedding events and you can bring down the cost!
There is no doubt that weddings can be hugely expensive. The cost of weddings can literally be as much as you want them to. However, your future marriage is much more important so make sure you start that life together in a financially stable way. You might even be saving up for a house which is much more important! By all means celebrate and enjoy the day the way you want to, but make a budget and stick to it!
