What You Need To Start A Business

Many of us want to start our own business. Selling the products we design, chatting with customers who have come in to our bricks and mortar unit, growing an idea from the ground up. Businesses come with a whole lot of work and not a lot of pay for a number of years. It’s challenge, but one which is so exciting! If you have thought about starting your own business, have you considered what you need to actually begin? Let’s take a look.

That Spark

The first thing you need when you are looking to start a business is a spark. That could be the initial idea that you have that your business will be based around. It could be a gap in the market. An idea which you think could actually help people. Maybe even simply seeing an empty shop unit on the high street. Whatever the reason that you want to start a business is, you need that initial reason to want to begin. If you don’t have this idea which sparks passion, why are you starting in the first place?

A Product People Want

You need a product that people want. Or a service if that is the idea that your business is. What is the reason people will come to you for your product? Why do they need it in their lives? What does your service help them with? Why would someone walk into your shop instead of the one next door or the other one that opened down the street? Your product might be a great idea in your head but getting it created, finalised and finished is something else. You then have to get it in front of people and get people to part with their cash for it.

Branding

Branding and marketing is so important. It can make or break a business. If people don’t know that you exist, how do they know they your product can change their lives? If they don’t know you have opened on one of the streets in the local town, why would they make an effort to pop in for a coffee, or to browse your shelves? As well as marketing to get people to look at your offerings, you need to have decent branding. You need to stand your business out from the crowd. This can include a custom logo, a colour pallete you stick to for your business branding and bespoke packaging. These things are so important and when you get them right, you’re sorted.

Start A Business

Persistence & Drive

This isn’t going to be easy and it’s obvious when one in five businesses fail within the first year. 3 in 5 aren’t around after 3 years! Persistence is required to work through problems and always strive towards the light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you cannot see it! Having the motivation to carry on and the drive to continue, even on days when you want to curl up in a ball. Persistence and drive are needed to turn that idea into a success story.

When you start a business, you need to be realistic about the amount of hard work involved and what you need to put in to get out what you want. Eyes on the prize, surround yourself with a good team and keep going. You’ll get where you want to be!
